Kim was the second best scorer in the FIVB World Cup after two rounds
Sapporo, Japan, November 11, 2011 - Korea star Yeon-Koung Kim explained she was rested against Italy in Korea's opening match of the third round of the FIVB World Cup and her team's focus is purely on Saturday's game against Japan.
The 23-year-old wing spiker and the tournament's second best scorer after two rounds only scored three points after featuring only in the opening set in Italy's (25-15, 25-12, 25-17) win over Korea on Friday.
Kim, who plays her club volleyball for Turkish club Fenerbahce, said the reason was purely because of Korea's key match against Japan. "Tomorrow we have a game against Japan. Today is just relax. Tomorrow, I don't want to lose, I want to win."
Korea sit 10th on the World Cup table with four points from one win and a close defeat while Japan have 10 points from three victories.
The last time the two teams played, Japan won 3-2 during the Asian Championship preliminaries in September. Japan lead the overall head to head record 35:12.
Meanwhile, Kim also explained that injuries are the reason for Korea's disappointing World Cup campaign and next year, with all their key players back, they will be a lot stronger and focused on Olympic Games qualification.
